This is what happens when you leave fuel sitting in the carburetor for years

These are the jets from a set of carburetors I am overhauling. I’m thinking this thing sat with gasoline in the bowls for 5 years or so. Maybe longer, I really have no idea.

Needless to say, good times are ahead!

When gasoline is the color of Coca-Cola, its age is measured on the geologic scale.

What do you do with old gasoline? I have about 2-3 gallons of old crap. I don’t know if I should take it to a gas station and return it for a refund or just light it on fire...

I had some dirty kerosene that was used to scrub a motorcycle chain clean, so I poured it into a brush pile before burning. But you’d have to be real careful doing that with gasoline...

Hmmm, it is a petroleum product, so maybe you could mix it with used motor oil before turning in for recycling...?

The tank it came out of is about 70 years old. My best guess is that at least SOME of that gas is 30-40 years old.

Your local parts place might take it. Also, Molotov cocktails.

I think I just used it as weed killer. Not in the lawn of course. Between patio stones. It came from the ground, it can go back into the ground. It’s not commercial property so it’s not like anyone’s checking anyway.

I didn’t try, but I highly doubt this stuff would have burned. Yours might.

If you’re going to do that, leave the container in the fire too. But pour it out and leave the cap off of course.

I just poured this stuff out on patio weeds.

EPA would have a field day with you if they knew you uhhhh poured shit that came out of the ground back into the ground... Don’t ask me why. My guess is they get to collect fines from you or something.

I don’t really understand that logic at all tho. Nothing we posses on this planet came from any other planet. So we’re not polluting. We are just rearranging placement of materials.

molotov cocktails... 3 gallons of this crap would make enough for a riot in venezuella. Too bad I am not the rioty type.

EPA can go fuck themselves. #1 because I’m in Canada, #2 because frankly weedkiller is just as bad, #3 because they can’t decide whether they want MPG or emissions under control.

I think it’s something to do with chemicals getting in the groundwater. But like I said, pesticides are still allowed...

It’s unpossible to argue with EPA. I hope uncle Don gets rid of them. We don’t need no stinkin EPA.

I wouldn’t say that exactly, but I would say they need some reworking.

Was there still gas in the bowls? I doubt gas would stay in bowls that long. It usually evaporates out after a month or so and leaves a glaze which can cause issues.

Yep, there was some horrid-smelling gas in the bowls. The gas tank was nearly full as well, but luckily didn’t eat away at it. The gas had to have been pretty old. The fuel wasn’t shutoff from the tank so that might explain why it hadn’t evaporated from the bowls.
